About

Wun Yip, (aka) leaf or li:f, is a filmmaker, visual artist and a media literacy advocate. Her films, installations and analog photography work has been exhibited in the U.S., China, UK, Italy and Hong Kong. In 2015, she founded a non-profit art and community studio space in Beijing, where she provided event and working space for artists and community builders free of charge.

Her advocacy work on media literacy stems from her research in visual anthropology at UC Berkeley and subsequent work as a news reporter. In 2019, li:f coined the term critical authorship, as a parallel to the core principle ‘critical viewership’ in the media literacy discourse. It aims to promote and reiterate critical thinking skills among media makers.

leaf is currently setting up a media literacy film grant and an artist residency in Kassel, Germany.
